Palm House

Here at Coastal Vintage we have been following Palm House - Emma & Gavin Hames's amazing home transformation located in Keppel Sands on Queenslands Capricorn Coast. 

Our Captain Sally had the pleasure of staying with the Hames family six years ago and has watched Palm House turn from a single story beach shack into a beautiful two story home. 

When Emma and Gav Hames were searching for a place to call home in Keppel Sands, they weren’t expecting to find it in the form of a little fibro box, which was being sold as a knock down and rebuild. 

Luckily, Emma saw past it’s uninspired additions for what it originally was, an old timber workers cottage with loads of charming features, just waiting to be loved again.

And what a labour of love it has been.

Emma, Gav and their children camped in the backyard for the first six months of the build, which they worked on together full time.

Throughout the transformation process, Emma was keen to keep it as authentic as possible, choosing materials which she hopes will last for another 100 years. 

She has filled Palm House with collections of beachcombed shells, old paintings and model yachts. Coral, wicker and demijohns. 

Many of which were sourced from Coastal Vintage. 

Salvaged brass ship's lights, pineapple motifs and vintage cookware give the kitchen a relaxed island vibe. 

Emma’s eclectic coastal style reflects the relaxed way the family live. 

We especially love the gallery walls hung with quirky seascapes!

The transformation process, although painstaking at times, was rewarding for Emma. 

“I loved being really hands-on, and saying at the end of the day ‘we did that’”.

     Emma is an avid beachcomber and collector, with a curiosity cabinet showcaseing some of her fabulous finds. 

 This cute vintage writing desk was a gift from husband Gavin.

A wonderful spot to relax, feel the ocean breeze and enjoy a sunset drink.
