Would you love to create a gallery wall in your home but you're not sure where to start?
Follow these top tips and you will be creating gallery walls like a pro in no time!
If you are anything like us at CoV, you have probably seen quite a few gallery walls lately, and wondered how to assemble and hang one yourself...
Gallery walls are fun to create, you can showcase many items together and tell a kind of visual story.
They add warmth, character and personality to any wall, like this incredible one created using old tools & brass hardware...
So how do you go about it? Firstly select the items you wish to display.
Think about a theme for your gallery wall, for example vintage fishing or nautical.
Starting with framed art works within your theme will create a good base & anchor your other pieces. Choose a variety of different sizes...
Work out how each piece can be hung. Do you need sticky hooks, blue tack or picture hooks?
Assemble your tool kit!
Top Tip: Keeping the colour palette simple (like this gallery wall below from The School House at Sommerset Dam) works really well.
Your eye will pick up on the texture of your pieces and you will create a cohesive look.
This gallery wall (below) from My Design Style features larger framed pieces, as well as very small pieces. Selecting objects of different sizes and shapes all helps to add interest.
And don't forget to include items with sentimental value which will add meaning and personality to you wall.
Now on to the practical stuff - You don’t want to start nailing holes in the wall until you have a plan!
Measure out a space on the floor the size of the wall you are working with.
Arrange, and rearrange your pieces on the floor until you are happy with the result.
Take a photo of the arrangement on your phone!
There are a few different ways to start hanging your gallery wall. We find it is always easier if you have another person to help you.
They can hold the items in place and you can approve the placement, marking the wall with a pencil where the fixing needs to go.
If you have a few larger pieces to hang, start with these as they will anchor the arrangement...
Don't worry too much if it's not perfect. It's meant to look a little haphazard!
You may find that you tweak and add to your gallery wall over time. That is all part of the fun!
Finally, sit back and let the compliments roll in!
You have created an amazing personalised gallery wall which will spark conservation and wonder for anyone who visits your home!
