The Seafarer Suite

Our photographer & crew member Tanya Smith has opened a coastal vintage style Airbnb. Tanya has created a beautiful space on a tight budget and with lots of touches from our store. It is truly an inspiration on how you don't need much to create a gorgeous space and it does always help that hubby is a builder too. Here is her story.

In early January my husband Brett and I started converting my home studio into an Airbnb.

The studio was already an office space under our home in Coolum Beach and to complete the space we added a bathroom, kitchenette and courtyard.

Painting sourced from Coastal Vintage

I think I have been dreaming of the Seafarer Suite for many years as I have collected a range of cane & antique furniture, seascapes paintings, old shells and nautical wares. These have been either thrifted, sourced from Coastal Vintage or handed down through my family.

As my home became cluttered, as my husband would say, the Seafarer Suite was launched - a suite for two seafarers filled with collected treasures found beside the seaside in Coolum Beach.

Curated and decorated with a shared love of vintage and the ocean, an ode to the seafarer - a person who regularly travels by the sea.

The seafarer suite is lovingly styled with fine linens, vintage finds, collected treasures and has all the comforts of a home away from home.

I designed the bathroom with a white and brass colour palette. The bathroom features a vintage cane mirror, pedestal basin, large walk in shower and brushed brass tap ware.

The rustic barn door came from my friends at Yandina Station. The cane pendant light and clam shell hooks are from Coastal Vintage.

The kitchenette utilises a small corner of the studio and started with a nursery shelf made by my uncle when my children were born. The farmhouse sink was installed and the wooden shelving & plate rack were thrifted. I have loved filling the shelves with vintage stoneware and kitchen finds.

A seafarers suite is not complete with out a rum glass or two!

These Captain Morgan glasses are from Coastal Vintage and made by a charity that they love to support - The Bali Street Mums Project.

You can learn more about the project here https://coastalvintage.com.au/captain-morgan-glasses/

The courtyard was the final space to create. We built a beach style boardwalk path out of reclaimed sleepers leading our guests into the seafarer suite.

The courtyard features a restored 1970's patio setting, a double rope hammock and handmade outdoor copper shower. It is styled with a cane pendant light shade, vintage oars, glass fishing floats, an old propeller and anchor - all very coastal vintage!

Thank you for taking a journey with me today chatting all things Coastal Vintage and The Seafarer Suite.

If you are visiting the Sunshine Coast and looking for a place just for 2, come stay. We would love to host you.

Cheers

Tanya
