La Shack Falcon

Tucked away in the coastal town of Falcon, just an hour south of Perth in WA, La Shack is a relaxed beachside weekender that celebrates the enduring charm and nostalgia of Australian shack life. Decorated by owners Ben & Eva, this shack is an ode to times past.

Ben works in his family's surf retail business and previously trained and worked as a naval architect before spending several years travelling the world working on superyachts.

Eva is a hotel and hospitality designer and has always been drawn to creating spaces that are deeply connected to their surroundings. Together, they love the coast and the simple rituals that come with life by the water.

La Shack is Eva and Ben's love letter to the sea.

Eva and Ben were searching for somewhere close enough for spontaneous weekends away, but far enough to feel like they could truly escape. Located on a narrow stretch of coastline between the Indian Ocean and the Peel Estuary, Falcon has a relaxed, old-school holiday vibe. The pace is slower and life there revolves around the outdoors - morning swims, boating, finishing, beach walks and long afternoons in the sun.

For Ben, the idea of a beach shack is deeply nostalgic. His dad, Murray Smith, was a champion surfer and board shaper, and much of Ben's childhood was spent at a humble beach shack in Margaret River shared between surfing families. Those memories shaped the vision for La Shack - we were drawn to the joy and simplicity of shack life.
"We wanted to create a place where people could slow down, relax and reconnect, free from the distractions of everyday life."

What inspired the interiors?

Eva and Ben wanted the beach shack to feel effortless and not placed in any one particular style or era - timeless in a way that felt collected rather than curated.  They were drawn to the enduring romance of Australian beach shacks.

The Beach Shacks of Australia Instagram account became a constant source of inspiration, filled with faded colours, unique details and beautifully imperfect homes that feel intrinsically connected to the coast and shaped by generations of summer holidays.

The artwork and objects have been collected over time and curated from many different sources - each item has its own story and includes original artworks, trinkets from overseas travel and vintage curios found and sourced.  We uncovered an unfinished painting of an ocean scene that Ben’s nana had started, and we had the canvas reframed into a trio of vintage frames - it’s a moment that holds special meaning.

The frames came from the same garage sale that we picked up the portrait of the Jack Russell (now in the master bedroom)…there are so many fun sourcing stories and memories - it’s nice to be reminded of them!
