Stuart Membery's Villa

Stuart Membery's Villa

While I was in Bali recently sourcing for the next container, international designer Stuart Membery

reached out on Instagram and invited me to view his latest venture - Pineapple Hill Villa.

We met many years ago in the early days of Coastal Vintage when he came to visit my warehouse while on holidays in Australia.

We connected over a love of coastal and vintage style interiors.

Over a cool drink and afternoon tea, Stuart told me much about his life, including his modelling and fashion designing days

(remember the clothing brands Espirt & Stuart Membery in the 1980/90s?) and also reminisced about his life living all over the world.

And, I soon learnt that he also spent a part of his childhood in my home town of Dubbo - located in central NSW.

Stuart kindly showed me through his stunning villa and explained the ideas and inspiration behind each room he styled.

Everything in his villa has been designed and created by him including the textiles and all of this can be found in his online store.

The villa is all set against a crisp backdrop of spanking white floors, walls & ceilings which highlight his style and beautiful textiles.

Situated at Batu Belig Beach, it is a hidden oasis away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Seminyak,

and has a rice paddy that is still farmed today located just beyond the front door.

It is within the radius of shopping spots and popular restaurants including nearby Berawa, which has morphed into a favourite shopping destination

for designers and home decorators (including me!) with some of Bali’s newest home decor stores and cafes.

Consisting of four deluxe bedrooms with indoor and outdoor ensuites, the villa comfortably sleeps up to eight adults with plenty of privacy to spare.

We love Stuarts use of ships signal flags repurposed as art in one of the bedrooms. Find similar flags here.

Polynesian art, colonial style furniture and nautical touches can be seen throughout,

including these old oars mounted on the wall - shop oars here

and collections of shells and other curios collected over the years grace every room, creating a feast for the eye.

The large open-air living/dining pavilion is a marvel of unstudied chic. Coastal style mixed with a dash of chinoiserie.

Lounge under the breeze of overhead fans on sumptuous rattan sofas covered in fabrics by Stuart and also Ralph Lauren.

Big old demijohns have been sourced in Indonesia and turned into table-lamps which boast necklaces of sea shells.

See our range of old shop jars and demijohns here for you to create something similar.

Colours, patterns and photographs coalesce into a light hearted mix.

At Pineapple Hill Villa no detail in luxury and barefoot comfort combined has been overlooked.

With a huge thanks to Stuart for such a memorable afternoon.
