These rough hewn pieces of timber were used nets as both floats and tags on Japanese fishing nets.
The tags would be used to identify the owner of the net.
This 18-metre length on rope has 23 tags spaced along it. The net it held is long gone.
Each has it's own unique shape and the timbers have aged from time spent in the water. Some have calligraphy.
