This lovely old brass ship's light is Japanese. 

We were unable to open it up from underneath to check the flue but it appears to be in place looking in from the top. Some WD40 and elbow grease should easily open it up. 

This lantern would have been used to signal 'Not under command'.

The metal has developed a wonderful patina from years of exposure to sea and air.
